PETER GALLACHER

Peter Gallacher was born in 1913. He never knew his father who died in the First World War.

He ran away from his family in 1928, shortly after his second half brother, John, was born. He boarded an immigration boat to Canada, having to forge his mother’s signature in the process.

He Married Annie Loyd in Canada and they had a son together named James. When war broke for the second time in the century Peter joined the Canadian Army. He was sent to France where despite the war, the darkest period of his life commenced. Peter had always been a rogue and a womaniser and at this time solved his problem by having his French mistress undergo an illegal abortion. Persuading his sister Meg, to send him the necessary monies. However during these difficult war-times, his wife in Canada also had an affair. Unfortunately Annie died undergoing an abortion.

Peter never knew of his wife’s death till he returned to Canada at the end of the war.

Peter remarried an Irish lady he met in Canada. They were no strangers to Glasgow and visited many times. They had two children together, a boy and a girl.

Peter’s eventful life continued with a job for the Canadian Embassy. He was posted at various times in Moscow, South America and London.

A charismatic, yet flawed man, he passed away in London in 1974.
