Patrick Boyce

In 1901 Patrick Boyce, aged two, was carried to the Meenenea farmhouse house by his Uncle Johnny McBride farmhouse following his Mothers death. He would spend his childhood here raised by his grandparent and living with his cousins. His Mother having died during the birth of his youngest sister.

Patrick had two sisters and two brothers; Bridget, Sara, Mickey and Johnny. All but Johnny went on to live in the East End of Glasgow. Johnny emigrated to America and lived in New York after marring in Scotland.

James Clark having grown up with his grandparents in Motherwell, also moved to the Calton. By the 1920’s they lived two streets apart in the Calton of Glasgow. It is not known if they were acquainted.

Patrick Married Helen Boyce in 1930. Helen hailed from Rutherglen and that was their they briefly settled, having three daughters. In 1937 the girls; Kathleen, Marjory and Eileen were aged five, three and six months where their father died in a train accident.

Patrick, a railway worker, died when struck by an oncoming train. His last action was to shout a warning to his mates.

Helen was left to bring up the three girls alone. In the following months they visited Meenenea farmhouse where Patrick had grown up. As seen in this picture.
